The Samsung Galaxy Note 8 has just been formalized. We were able to take it in hand for a few moments, the opportunity to share with you our first impressions about this great high-end smartphone and very expensive.
When a recipe works, you tend to reuse it several times. Samsung seems to be particularly pleased with the "Infinity Display" design of its Galaxy S8. And for the coup, the South Korean builder has taken over the same aesthetic to design his Galaxy Note 8 just announced.
As expected, the new phablette of the manufacturer has a screen without borders, to the ratio of 18, 5:9. Fortunately, the smartphone is not a simple copy - bigger - Galaxy S8 and offers a few features that are unique. We had the opportunity to take it in hand.
Design
The shape of the device, the grip and the feel are the same. The outlines around the screen are almost non-existent and there are no buttons on the front. One cannot help admiring the look of the terminal. The "wow" effect we enjoyed on the manufacturer's first flagship 2017 is once again at the rendezvous.
There are still two differences in size. The first one that jumps to the eye is the presence of a double camera in the back with distant objectives of each other. None of the Samsung smartphones that preceded Note 8 had a dual photo sensor. We will come back in more detail on this one later.
The second significant difference is obviously the drawer for the pen S, on the bottom edge of the phone. Visually, it is characterised by a simple small square flush very discreet. To get out the stem, simply perform a little pressure on it.
Too bad that the glass back marks a little too much finger marks and that the fingerprint reader is once again shifted to the right, next to the photo module. To unlock the phone, you have to get into the habit of putting your finger in the right place. You can also opt for biometric solutions (Iris scanner and facial recognition).
Screen
Samsung will offer AMOLED screens on its smartphones since almost nine years - Unlike Apple and LG for example. The display of the Galaxy Note 8 is no exception. Moreover, as expected, the phone has a diagonal of 6.3 inches with a QHD definition and a ration 18, 5:9.In this, he is barely bigger than the Galaxy S8 +. The display quality seemed very correct, of the perfect contrast to the brightness of the screen which seemed high enough.
Software
The Samsung Galaxy note 8 runs natively on Android 7.1.1 Nougat and has a pretty well thought Builder interface. the experience is very fluid. In this respect, the manufacturer promises two things: a quick pass to Android 8.0 Oreo and the monthly security updates. We hope that the South Korean giant will keep his word.Apart from that, Samsung clearly focuses on multitasking and wants to make the most of the wide screen of the terminal. To do this, it offers a feature called 'pair of applications '. As you no doubt, normally, to take advantage of the score screen on Android, it must open two applications one after the other.
With the application pairs offered by the Galaxy Note 8, just press a single icon to open two apps at the same time, side by side. The user can configure the application duos to open with a single click. Samsung thus evokes the ability to quickly launch both Google Maps and Play music when traveling in order to know the itinerary and listen to pieces.
To access the pairs of applications, drag your finger or the stylus from the right to the center of the screen. This option is openly dedicated to the people who use their smartphones to work a lot and wants to improve their productivity.
Obviously, the S Pen offers a lot of functionality. We can thus write a message by hand and turn it into animated GIF to send it a message. S Pen is also able to translate a paragraph written in a foreign language (up to four sentences at a time) and this, just highlighting him instantly. Finally, thanks to this tool, it is possible to write memos to pin Always On Display. That said, you will always have your notes available under the eyes and these can be edited to infinity.
The Intelligent Wizard Bixby is necessarily the part, but it is only available in Korean and English. In French, its features are still very limited and its dedicated button on the left edge of the phone is more gadget than anything else at the moment.
Camera
Samsung has always accustomed us to good phones for the photo, but this has not prevented it to yield to the mode of the double photo sensors. That of the Galaxy Note 8 looks promising with a 12 megapixels for each objective definition. The first is a wide-angle has an opening of f/1.7, while the second is a telephoto lens opened to f/2, 4. Note also that both sensors have an optical image stabilization. The demonstration of Samsung fast seemed quite convincing, but it will take a complete test to get a true opinion on the issue.
In addition, the Galaxy Note 8 wants to allow users to take pretty portraits by proposing a bokeh effect well marked. The blur-net effect can be attenuated or enhanced before and even after the shooting. Here too, this feature seems to be properly mastered and interesting to manipulate.
Performance
With 6 GB of RAM, the Samsung Galaxy Note 8 promises to achieve big performance. He embarks on this subject a chip Exynos 8895 on European models — against a Snapdrahon 835 in the rest of the world. On the Galaxy S8, this combination was able to prove itself and we can expect at least the same power for this new flagship.In addition to this, Samsung indicates that the experience on DeX, the dock that turns the phone into a computer, is optimized thanks to the power of Galaxy Note 8. Once again, productivity is at the heart of the brand's speech.
Autonomy
It is because of its 3 500 mAh battery that the Galaxy Note 7 has been removed from the market for too many cases of explosions. To avoid the same fiasco, its successor has equipped itself with a battery with the lesser capacity of 3 300 mAh.
At the moment it is still impossible to know whether this will allow the Galaxy Note 8 to be well self-sufficient. But it is good to remember, that its chip engraved in 10 nanometers has a good energy efficiency and that the AMOLED screen, even if it is large, is not excessively greedy.
Network and communication
Once is not custom, Samsung's new product is compatible with all French 4 G frequency bands. It supports in particular the 4 G category 16, the highest LTE standard, for a theoretical throughput of 1 Gb/S.
Price and Availability
The Samsung Galaxy Note 8 will be available for sale in September for a recommended price of ... 1 009 euros. Thus the symbolic bar of 1 000 euros is exceeded. In view of this rate, one cannot help but wonder at which Price mind-blowing will be launched the Apple IPhone 8.
