[SPOILERS] Moving several pieces of a tragic game, the final chapter of this penultimate season intelligently explores the weight of lies.
After six episodes which have concentrated an impressive number of meetings expected and several sequences show, the last episode of season 7 of Game of Thrones is probably one that is the most solid, from a thematic point of view.
For 76 minutes, David Benioff and DB Weiss, the showrunners of the HBO series, methodically studying the causes and consequences of the lies about the history of the seven kingdoms.
A story in which those who try to change things positively have to struggle with the ghosts of the past. And where those who want to retain power perpetuate a tragic tradition of deceit
Attention: the following text contains revelations about the plot.
Two Queens finally face to face
The Dragon and the Wolf begins at landing, on the occasion of the first meeting of the Queens. Daenerys Targaryen (Emilia Clarke), accompanied by his many supporters and its armed forces, meets for the first time the road of Cersei Lannister (Lena Headey) before joining the North and landscapes of re... North.
The purpose of the interview: raise the threat of the army of the dead and the King of the night, on the way to Westeros. Come with one of the "soldiers" of this famous army, Jon Snow (Kit Harington), Sandor Clegane (Rory McCann) and others show the woman sitting on Thrones the threat posed by the white walkers and their fighters.
Visibly impressed, Cersei was ready to partner with the mother of Dragons and the Northmen if Snow promises not to interfere in the conflict that pits it against Daenerys. Jon refuses to make this promise: he announced having lent allegiance to the mad King's daughter. This burst of honesty seems to play against Daenerys, as Cersei put an end to the discussion.

False promise in Port-Real
After a tense exchange with Tyrion (Peter Dinklage)-where it is in particular about the death of Tywin Lannister, but also of those of Joffrey, Myrcella and Tommen Baratheon ... as well as a new pregnancy-the widow of King Robert decides to finally make a truce with Daenerys for what Jon designates as the Great War.
A rather fast turnaround ... which turns out to be a ruse. Cersei has a plan: it will not hold that commitment. On the contrary, she planned to use mercenaries stationed at Essos, the Golden Company, to take advantage of the situation and hold hands over power. To achieve its purpose, it agreed with Euron Greyjoy (Patel), who must ensure the transport of these new fighters across the strait.
The choice of Cersei once more, not without consequence. It further isolates him. This lie is actually a sharp break between she and Jaime Lannister (Nikola Coster Waldau), who decides to leave landing to join North and fight the army of the dead.
A Payback in Winterfell
to the North, the shenanigans of Petyr Baelish (Aidan Gillen) Littlefinger take an unexpected turn. While her meticulous work of sapping to manipulate Sansa Stark (Sophie Turner) seems to reach his goal, Ned Stark's three children are the intriguing with its responsibilities.
What initially seems to be the "trial" of Arya, Littlefinger must respond to murder and treason. It is he who has mounted Catelyn Stark and Lisa Arryn one against the other. It's still him that triggered the conflict between the Starks and the Lannisters. It's always him that instigated the murder of Jon Arryn, the ex-Main of King Robert. This time, Sansa and Arya (Maisie Williams) won't let anything go.
Faced with his shenanigans, Baelish tries to save face. He will lose the throat cut by Arya Stark. Long-awaited, the end of Littlefinger play as much on the duplicity of the character on his capacity to love women that he will cease to betray. Guaranteed effect: the complexity of the character is cleverly exploited.
A revolt based on a lie
This confrontation also signs the rapprochement of Sansa and Arya, in a nice, soothing scene. The two women remain very different, but in an exchange around their deceased father, their common past, as much as the ability they have to understand each other, encourages them to ally themselves. Which could be a crucial asset for the sequel.
Because dark clouds point to the horizon. While Sam Tarly (John Bradley-West) arrives at Winterfell, Bran Stark (ISAAC Hampstead-Wright) understands, in exchange with the latter, that Jon Snow is not only the son of Lyanna Stark and Rheagar Targaryen, he is also the rightful pretender to the Iron Throne since he is not the fruit of an illegitimate union. He also understands that the revolt of Robert Baratheon, who supposedly took the arms because Rhaegar had kidnapped Lyanna, lies on a lie. Inevitably, there is enough to be a little embarrassed ...
This awareness of Bran, who wishes to inform his ex-half-brother new cousin, occurs when the rapprochement between Jon and Daenerys crosses a step without return. Both have succumbed to the attraction that has plagued them for several episodes (with a sexual tension to be cut at Verredragon).
Then , a section of the wall collapsed...
Toys of a destiny that they are desperately trying to change, both will experience difficult tomorrows when they know their relationship. They will not, from the rest, keep it to themselves, since Tyrion saw Jon join Daenerys in his room before the fateful moment ...
The situation may be even more complicated than the king of the night and his army now walk on Westeros. Perched on the dragon aiming, the silent ruler managed to open a rift in the wall. There is no longer anything that prevents White Walkers and their horde from setting the course for the Seven Kingdoms.
The great war has Begin
The three best scenes of the episode
3. Sansa and Arya evoke the memory of Ned. After having touched on everything they have been through, the two young women talk about their father and what he has taught them. In the Face of the intrigues that they have often been subjected to, they understand that they are resting first on what makes their personalities. A legacy, values and memories.
2. Jaime leaves Cersei to join Tyrion. The rupture seemed inevitable, despite the strength of the feelings that bind them. Confronted with the Queen's lie, Jaime chooses to remain faithful to his word. Once again, his moral sense and his impulses collide. And once again, the Kingslayer should carry its choice as a cross.
1. Jon, Theon and freedom of choice. This scene was very much awaited. The two men have opposite paths and yet they are not so distant that one might believe. Skillfully, the series asks a question that should inhabit season 8: In the face of the cruelty of Fate, will the heroes make choices that will enable them to truly be themselves or will they be slaves to the dilemmas that inhabit them?
Close-up of a sequence
The Fossedragon of Port-Real. While Tyrion is in parliament with Cersei, Daenerys evokes with Jon the history of the place that serves as a theatre of encounter for the two queens. The Fossedragon was the home of the Dragons at the time when the Targaryens were holding landing. Built by Maegor the Cruel, ancestor of Daenerys, it was built on the ruins of an ancient seven, itself destroyed by the ruler and his dragon Balerion during the war against the militants of the faith.
If construction were to protect the mythical creatures, she also had consequences on their growth, as explained briefly Daenerys. None of the dragons sheltered in this link has reached the size of Balerion. And it is partly allowed later, citizens in revolt to kill them.
