Google announces the imminent arrival of a new tool: Google
Backup and sync. Available on June 28th, 2017, this desktop application for Mac
and PC will allow individuals to save their files and photos in the cloud. In
fact, this will be the new version of the Google Drive which will benefit from
two new features Backup of files and photos hosted on your computer. Google
specifies that it is a mainstream tool: If your company uses G suite, it is
advisable to continue using Google Drive for PC/Mac until the new professional
software, drive file stream, is available.
The Google Drive for PC/Mac software will change name on
June 28, 2017 and become Google Backup and sync. The operation of the service
will remain unchanged, you will be able to access your Google Drive files from
your PC and synchronize them. The Google software that allows you to upload
your photos to Google Photos will also be integrated with Google Backup and
sync. You can select the folders that contain your photos to synchronize them
to Google Photos.
You will also be able to choose the folders that contain your most important files to synchronize them to Google Drive like desktop, My Documents, or any other folder. A good tool for users, but also for Google, the 15 GB of free storage on Google Drive will be reached much faster if users can back up their files more easily.
